The teams are growing stronger day by day and the League becomes more competitive. Many interesting matches were played this weekend, read the full review here.

Kolossos Rhodes – Olympiacos 61-94

Easy win this one for Olympiacos who wins his 10th game out of ten, both in Euroleague and Greece. On the other side, Kolossos has not started strong and has no win yet. The “Reds” didn’t start well, didn’t pay any attention in defence, so as a result Kolossos remained close but the second quarter was what Spanoulis and co. needed. The team did everything they wanted on both sides of the court, and the final score is a reflection of the two teams situation. Spanoulis was the best for Olympiacos scoring 14 points with 2 steals, while Lojeski had 15 with 3/3 behind the arc. For Kolossos, Osby was one who made the difference.

PAOK – Apollon Patras 78-74

PAOK was threatened from Apollon but defence gave him his 4th win this season. The home team was in front for most of the game, with small but secure difference, since Apollon didn’t work as a team, but Bolds was the one who kept them close to their opponent, however without really troubling the team from Thessaloniki. The half came to a close with Apollon trailing for 5 (35-30) and PAOK playing good offensively but poor defence gave Apollon the chance to take the upper hand at the 31st minute when the away side got in front 55-56.

After that point the two teams were close, both took a couple of small leads, PAOK was concentrated and kept the 6 point difference they got at 38, till the end. MVP of the game was Tsairelis who scored 19p. and Payne with 17. For Apollon Bolds was the best with 27 points.

A.G.O. Rethymno – Aris 84-77

AGOR took a clean and important win against team in good shape Aris. The away sidegot in front from early on, since they managed to play great defence outside the arc, blocking Rethymno’s game, which is based on shooting. However the home team found the solution, playing decently inside the paint, grabbed the lead 46-43 at the end of the half.

The second part of the game was similar to the first, but at 37th minute, after a 6-0 run, AGOR took a lead of 11p that maintained until the end. That win showed that Rethymno is a strong and quite complete team, with room for improvement and good chances for a good season. Best player for the home team was Hart with 23, and for Aris Asimakopoulos was the first scorer with 12 but also with 8 rebs.

Panionios – AEN Kifissia 64-39

It was a bad week and it is gone now for Panionios who had another great win and even recorded a top performance for the team, less points received in a game in Greek League. The beginning of the match was not good, both teams committed many turnovers and the pace was very low. Luckily the second quarter was more interesting, with Panionios taking a 8-point lead, and the half came to a close with the home team in front 29-21.

Second half begun with AENK starting strong and making a 5-0 run, but nothing more for them since Panionios tightened up their defence, AENK had bad ball movenent and not so good choices, allowing the home side to run a 20-0 offensive crescento at the 4th quarter taking an easy win, giving the team some boost for the game ahead against Besiktas in Eurocup. Kiritsis had his first game with Panionios who scored 9, no one scored more (4 players had 9), the team shared the rock and defended very well, Adegboye had 9 for AENK which had a very bad game. Giannis Athanasoulas’ injury to the neck was the bad moment of the game, he is about to be examined within the week, however it is estimated to keep him out of action for a couple of weeks.

Ilisiakos – AO Trikala 69-59

Ilisiakos had their first win this season, without meeting any difficulties against Trikala. The away side could only follow until the end of the first quarter (14-15). The half ended 40-28 for Ilisiakos who had good rhythm. The second half was even better for them, they got a maximum 13-point lead but Trikala made a comeback, without troubling the opponent 58-52 at the 35th minute, but Ilisiakos hung on to the win for the rest of the game.

Smith scored 13 for the winners, who defended decently, allowing AOT to score 41 point in 30 minutes. Ewing Jr had a good match, scoring 15 and grabbing 14 rebs.

Ikaros Chalkidas – Panelefsiniakos 74-84

Panelefsiniakos grabbed his second win this season, this time against Ikaros Chalkidas. The second quarter was a disaster for Ikaros, who had a good first one (20-23). Panelefsiniakos scored 21 and allowed only 11 taking a 13-point lead to the end of the half, 21-34.

Despite Ikaros being better offensively, didn’t managed to defend, giving the visitors a 15-point advanatage 50-65, to the end of the 3rd. The home team tried to close the gap, even grab the win in the end, but only managed to reduce the point difference to 6 (71-77). Panelefsiniakos didnt’ lose their composure, and secured the win, Aska led the way with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Turner was the MVP for Ikaros in this one with 17p. and 100% field goal percentance
