The Milwaukee Bucks have waived Kevin Porter Jr., ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Monday, October 19, as the team finalizes its roster for the 2026-27 NBA season.

Porter is coming off one of his most productive NBA seasons. He averaged 17.4 points, 7.4 assists, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals in 38 games for Milwaukee in 2025-26, starting 36 times. He shot 46.5% from the field, 32.2% from three-point range and 87.8% from the free-throw line while playing 33.2 minutes per game.

The guard’s season was limited by availability, as he appeared in fewer than half of Milwaukee’s 82 regular-season games. His 17.4 points per game ranked second on the team, while his 7.4 assists led the Bucks.

Milwaukee’s decision comes during a major roster transition. The Bucks traded Giannis Antetokounmpo to the Miami Heat in July, receiving Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kel’el Ware, Kasparas Jakucionis and the No. 13 pick in the 2026 draft, Nate Ament, as part of the deal. Bobby Portis, Taurean Prince and Gary Harris also went to Miami.

Herro now headlines Milwaukee’s reshaped backcourt, alongside returning guard Ryan Rollins and rookie Brayden Burries, the No. 10 pick in the draft.

Porter previously played for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets before spending the 2023-24 season in Greece. He joined Milwaukee during the 2024-25 season and averaged 11.7 points, 3.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 30 games with the Bucks that year.

The waiver leaves Porter seeking his next NBA opportunity after averaging 14.4 points and 4.9 assists across 309 career regular-season games.
