The NBA and several major sportsbooks have reached an agreement to prohibit additional types of wagers as the league continues tightening its betting regulations following recent gambling scandals.
According to reports, the new restrictions will target several categories of player-related bets that have raised concerns about potential manipulation.
Among the newly prohibited wagers are parlays involving multiple under bets on the same player’s statistics.
The league will also eliminate certain “First of” betting markets, including wagers on the winner of the opening tip and which player records a specific shot, rebound, assist or steal first.
Another restriction will prevent bettors from placing under wagers on players projected to average fewer than 12 minutes per game.
The changes follow ongoing discussions between the NBA and major gambling companies about strengthening safeguards and reducing opportunities for suspicious betting activity.
The league has been working with sportsbook operators to identify betting markets that could be particularly vulnerable to manipulation, especially those involving individual player performances.

These new measures build on restrictions introduced during previous seasons.
Existing rules already prohibit bets involving players on 10-day contracts or two-way deals, as well as player prop wagers related to turnovers.
The NBA has also restricted betting markets involving personal fouls and missed free throws.
