The Memphis Grizzlies are waiving Walter Clayton Jr. and Micah Peavy, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Monday, October 19, as the team continues to reshape its roster ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.
Clayton, selected 18th overall in the 2025 NBA Draft, appeared in 24 games for Memphis during the 2025-26 season after beginning the campaign with the Utah Jazz. He averaged 9.7 points, 5.7 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 25 minutes per game with the Grizzlies, shooting 36.6% from the field and 30.7% from three-point range.
The 22-year-old guard played college basketball at Iona before transferring to Florida. In his final season with the Gators in 2024-25, he averaged 18.3 points, 4.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds in 38 games, shooting 38.1% from beyond the arc.
Peavy joined Memphis in September as part of a trade with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Grizzlies sent AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson to New Orleans and received Jordan Hawkins, Peavy and draft compensation.
Peavy played 61 NBA games for the Pelicans in 2025-26, averaging 4.3 points and 1.9 rebounds in 15 minutes per contest. He shot 38.5% from the field and 25.9% from three-point range. Before turning professional, the forward played at Texas Tech, TCU and Georgetown, averaging 17.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.6 assists in his final college season.
Memphis has undergone a significant roster overhaul since trading Ja Morant to the Portland Trail Blazers in June. The Grizzlies received Jerami Grant and Kris Murray in that deal, while using additional trades to acquire draft assets and reshape the roster around younger players.
The Grizzlies selected Cameron Boozer third overall in the 2026 NBA Draft and acquired forward Karim Lopez with the 21st pick.
