Nikola Jokic reaffirmed his long-term commitment to Denver during the team’s 2025 Media Day.
The three-time MVP addressed questions about not signing an extension this summer and emphasized loyalty to the franchise. “My plan is to be a Nugget forever,” Jokic said, adding that contract extensions come as a natural part of the sport as the salary cap continues to grow.
Reports indicate the Nuggets offered Jokic a three-year deal worth approximately $206.4 million. By waiting until 2026, the 30-year-old could secure a four-year extension valued near $285.4 million.
League insiders stress that the delay does not signal discontent. Zach Lowe said on The Lowe Post that there has never been any indication of Jokic wanting to leave Denver, regardless of changes in coaching or roster structure.
A Nuggets executive echoed that sentiment in comments to Spotrac. “No worry at all. It’s the smart move from his side. Same offer, plus one more year, will be there for him a year from now. He knows that, and we’re all on the same page,” the executive said.
Sam Amick of The Athletic also reported that there are no signs of a split between Jokic and the organization. However, he noted the front office must remain proactive in roster management to keep the team competitive.
Denver is coming off a 36–46 campaign that ended in the second round of the playoffs. Despite the setback, the franchise remains focused on surrounding Jokic with championship-caliber talent.
Jokic continued to deliver elite production last season, averaging 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists across 70 regular-season games. He followed with 26.2 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 8.0 assists in 14 playoff appearances.
