Kevin Porter Jr. eyes NBA return despite overseas interest

Kevin Porter Jr. remains focused on finding another NBA opportunity after being waived by the Milwaukee Bucks before the 2026-27 regular season, despite attracting interest from overseas teams, according to Hoops Rumors’ report on Monday, October 26.

Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported, per Hoops Rumors, that Porter is not necessarily expected to find a new team immediately, citing a source briefed on his situation. However, the veteran guard remains optimistic about his chances of staying in the NBA rather than continuing his career abroad.

Several NBA teams are evaluating their backcourts early in the season and could consider Porter if they become dissatisfied with their current options, Stein and Fischer reported.

The Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings are among the potential destinations. Both teams previously discussed a possible trade for Porter with Milwaukee, although their financial situations could complicate a reunion with the veteran guard.

Denver is operating well above the luxury tax line, while Sacramento has limited room below that threshold. Signing Porter as a 15th player would therefore be less appealing than acquiring him through a trade that sends salary back to Milwaukee, according to the report.

Porter, 26, averaged 17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 7.4 assists in 38 games for the Bucks during the 2025-26 season. He shot 46.5% from the field and 32.2% from three-point range, while averaging 33.2 minutes per game.

His production followed a 2024-25 campaign split between the Los Angeles Clippers and Milwaukee. He averaged 9.3 points and 3.2 assists in 45 games with the Clippers before recording 11.7 points and 3.7 assists in 30 appearances for the Bucks.

Porter previously played for the Houston Rockets, averaging 19.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists in 59 games during the 2022-23 season.

He also briefly played in Greece for PAOK in 2024, appearing in four games and averaging 20.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 6.5 assists during the regular season.
