Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams had high praise for the Los Angeles Lakers ahead of Sunday’s clash between the two title contenders.
Williams said the Lakers ‘are still the champs’ and noted the Suns have to beat them multiple times to prove they are on the same level with the defending champions.
“L.A. is still the champs. They are the one team that has the present DNA. Everyone is chasing them. They’ve proven they can win difficult games.
You have to beat them in a series to declare (your team on that level),” Williams said about the Lakers, via Mike Trudell of Spectrum Sportsnet.
Phoenix currently is second in the West, at 27-13, whereas the Lakers are third, with a 28-14 record.
