According to Brian Windhorst, league executives see three realistic options ahead for LeBron James once the season concludes.
He could remain with the Lakers on a reduced contract, explore opportunities elsewhere through free agency, or decide to step away from the game entirely.
What seems increasingly unlikely, however, is Los Angeles continuing to pay him at or near a maximum salary level.
While James is no longer operating at his peak form, league insiders still view him as a highly valuable player if he chooses to keep playing.
One head coach pointed out that his production remains strong, noting, “LeBron is still averaging 20 points and shooting 50%. You just have to find the right situation.”
James has played 23 seasons for the Cavaliers, Lakers, and Heat. He has averaged 26.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists in 1,577 regular-season games. He was selected to play in 21 All-Star games.
He has won the Rookie of the Year award, 4 MVP awards, 4 Finals MVP awards and 4 NBA championships.
