The NBA is continuing to evaluate possible rule adjustments aimed at further discouraging tanking, and league insiders expect the conversation to intensify as the season moves forward, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.
Concerns are already growing among executives, who believe the issue will become more noticeable as more teams shift their focus away from competing in the standings.
One Eastern Conference executive suggested that the problem could reach an uncomfortable level later in the season.
“This is only going to get louder,” the executive said, pointing to the increasing number of teams prioritizing draft position over wins.
Looking ahead, the concern is that meaningful competition could decline significantly.
“By the spring, I think one out of every three games we’re going to play is going to be against a team that’s tanking.”
