Malik Beasley has made it clear where he wants to play if he returns to the NBA, stating, “If I do go back to the NBA, it’s gonna be with the Pistons.” Beasley emphasized his strong ties to Detroit, highlighting his standout 2024–25 season with the team.
The 28-year-old guard remains a free agent as of November, waiting for the NBA to complete its review following a federal gambling case earlier this summer. Federal authorities cleared Beasley, but the league launched its own investigation under the collective bargaining agreement.
Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, told the Detroit Free Press that his client is open to rejoining Detroit if a viable path exists. He added that Beasley has “a lot of love for Detroit” but acknowledged that questions remain regarding contract terms and roster fit.
Last season, Beasley averaged 16.3 points per game while shooting 41.6 percent from three-point range, playing in all 82 regular-season contests. In the playoffs, he contributed 14 points per game against the New York Knicks, establishing himself as a reliable perimeter scorer.
Detroit’s financial situation could complicate a reunion, as the Pistons can only offer up to $7.2 million under non-Bird rights. Other teams with more flexibility may present higher offers, creating competition for Beasley’s services.
The Pistons have also added multiple wings this offseason, including Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, and Javonte Green, adding depth at Beasley’s position. Despite that, his familiarity with Detroit and previous success make him a potential fit if the roster allows.
