The Detroit Pistons have acquired veteran sharpshooter Duncan Robinson in a sign-and-trade deal with the Miami Heat, league sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Robinson, 31, is joining the Pistons on a three-year, $48 million contract. The move ends his seven-year tenure with Miami, where he became the franchise’s all-time leader in three-pointers made with 1,202.

In return, the Heat will receive Simone Fontecchio, who spent the 2024–25 season as a rotational wing for Detroit.

Robinson averaged 11.0 points while shooting 39.3% from three-point range last season. He appeared in 74 games, starting 37, and played 24.1 minutes per contest.

Undrafted out of Michigan in 2018, Robinson emerged as one of the league’s most efficient perimeter threats. He ranks among the top eight undrafted players in NBA history in made three-pointers.

The Pistons are coming off a 44–38 campaign and a first-round playoff appearance, their first postseason berth since 2019. They lost to the New York Knicks in six games.

Robinson’s addition gives Detroit a floor-spacer who fits alongside rising guards Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey. His career 39.7% clip from deep provides an immediate upgrade to a team that ranked 21st in the league in three-point percentage.

The Heat, meanwhile, part ways with one of their most accomplished long-range shooters. Robinson played in 423 regular season games for Miami, averaging 11.3 points and 2.8 made threes per game.

In the postseason, he logged 70 appearances, including 21 starts during Miami’s 2020 Finals run. He owns a 39.9% three-point percentage in playoff action.
