Free-agent guard Malik Beasley remains under NBA investigation, and his attorney says the process is affecting his client’s future.

Steve Haney, Beasley’s lawyer, told the Detroit Free Press the league is conducting a misconduct review to determine whether any rules were violated through the collective bargaining agreement.

“That investigation is currently ongoing and we’re cooperating, providing whatever information we can to hopefully get Malik clear so he can resume his free agency,” Haney said.

The probe stems from Beasley’s connection to a federal gambling case earlier this summer. While federal authorities cleared him of wrongdoing, the NBA launched its own inquiry to review the matter independently.

Haney stressed that leaks surrounding the case created hurdles for Beasley’s offseason market. “This news of the investigation… definitely caused him to lose some opportunity in free agency and hopefully there’s still a pathway that he can still get back on track for next season,” he said.

Beasley, 28, is coming off one of his most consistent seasons with the Detroit Pistons. He averaged 16.3 points per game, shot 41.6 percent from three, and played in all 82 regular-season contests.

In the playoffs, he added 14 points per game against the New York Knicks, giving Detroit valuable spacing on the perimeter.

The Pistons face financial limitations with Beasley’s contract situation. They can only offer $7.2 million using his non-Bird rights, which leaves the door open for other teams to make a competitive offer.

Detroit has also reshaped its wing rotation by adding Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, and Javonte Green, creating uncertainty about Beasley’s potential role if he returns.

Teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks, and Cleveland Cavaliers are monitoring his availability.

Beasley fueled speculation on Instagram this week, posting, “Step into my world… year 10 is approaching… my decision is near,” alongside a photo of his “MB5” brand.

For now, his future hinges on the NBA’s ruling. Until the investigation concludes, Beasley’s free agency will remain in limbo.
