Former Stanford Cardinal/current Denver Nugget Spencer Jones recently answered if book smarts translate to basketball smarts.

“Yeah, there’s some positives and negatives to it. Like one, understanding the game analytically. That’s why I’m good at role recognition: I use the book smarts there knowing like, ‘Look, this is how I have to get on the floor in terms of where I need to take my shots, how I need to shoot, where they’re gonna come from, and everything like that.’ Where it kinda hurts is you can get a little too analytical, focusing too much on the numbers. I know I’ll look at percentages and stuff like that, and think where I need to shoot rather than just the natural feel of the game that you need to have and all the greats have. So, it’s a balancing act of both of those.”
