EuroBasket 2025: Tallest, shortest, oldest, and youngest players to watch

This summer, 288 players are taking to the court across four countries and four cities – Riga, Tampere, Limassol, and Katowice – for FIBA EuroBasket 2025.

With so much talent on display, attention has focused on some of the extremes: the tallest and shortest players, along with the most experienced veterans and the brightest young prospects making their mark.

Tallest Player: Kristaps Porzingis

Latvia’s Kristaps Porzingis is the tallest competitor at 2.21 meters (7ft 3in), and his presence is a nightmare for opponents. Capable of scoring inside and from range, the Latvian superstar’s combination of size and skill makes him a cornerstone for his team.

Other towering players include Sweden’s Matthias Markusson (2.17m), Poland’s Aleksander Balcerowski (2.17m), Slovenia’s Alen Omic (2.16m), and Georgia’s Giorgi Shermadini (2.16m).

Several others, including Jusuf Nurkic, Nikola Vucevic, and Lauri Markkanen, also top the 2.13m mark, providing a formidable frontcourt across the tournament.

Shortest Player: John Roberson

Standing at just 1.80 meters (5ft 11in), Bosnia and Herzegovina’s John Roberson is tied with Belgium’s Emmanuel Lecomte and Niels Van Den Eynde as the shortest players in the tournament.

Despite their stature, all three are dynamic on both ends of the floor, capable of contributing significantly to their teams.

Other players just above them include Jelani Watson-Gayle (GBR), Aegir Steinarsson (ISL), and Rafael Lisboa (POR), all listed at 1.82 meters (6ft 0in).

Oldest Player: Danilo Gallinari

Italy’s Danilo Gallinari leads the tournament in experience at 37 years old. Fresh off his first domestic championship in Puerto Rico, the veteran forward continues to impress with his passion and leadership.

Following Gallinari on the veteran list are John Roberson (37), Nikos Stylianou (36, Cyprus), Giorgi Shermadini (36, Georgia), and Kamil Laczynski (36, Poland), proving that experience remains a vital asset in high-level international basketball.

Youngest Player: Miikka Muurinen

At just 18, Finland’s Miikka Muurinen is the youngest competitor in EuroBasket 2025. Already seen as a future cornerstone for the Finnish national team, Muurinen has the potential to break out on the international stage in Tampere.

Other young talents include Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Tarik Hrelja (19), Slovenia’s Mark Padjen (19), and Spain’s Sergio De Larrea (19), showing that the next generation of European basketball stars is ready to make their mark.
