Charlotte Hornets star Kon Knueppel reflected on growing up as a Milwaukee Bucks fan, revealing that his family attended more games when the franchise was struggling because tickets were considerably cheaper.
Knueppel, who grew up in the Milwaukee area, recalled a period when the Bucks were among the NBA’s weakest teams and tickets could be purchased for as little as $5.
The low prices allowed his family to attend games regularly, including numerous matchups against the Phoenix Suns.
Kon: “I feel like I saw every Bucks-Suns game for like a four-year stretch because they were like the worst team… So the tickets were like five bucks.”
During the conversation, Knueppel was asked how ticket prices changed as Milwaukee developed into a championship contender.
TA: “How were Bucks tickets in general? Obviously, the championship year, I’m sure it was crazy…”
Knueppel explained that his family’s attendance actually declined as the Bucks improved, largely because the growing popularity of the team made tickets more expensive.
The arrival and development of Giannis Antetokounmpo helped transform Milwaukee from a struggling franchise into one of the NBA’s strongest teams, eventually culminating in the 2021 championship.
However, that success also made attending games less affordable for Knueppel’s family.
Kon: “I just remember that we went to more games when they were really bad. And then as they got good and Giannis came along, we went to less and less games because they were more expensive.”
