Giannis Antetokounmpo jokes about returning to No. 34 amid Heat’s winless start

Miami Heat star Giannis Antetokounmpo has suggested he could return to wearing No. 34 next season, although he initially chose a different number out of respect for his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks.

Antetokounmpo has worn No. 7 since joining Miami, but the Heat have struggled to begin the 2026-27 NBA season, losing their first four games despite strong individual performances from the two-time MVP.

The Greek forward is averaging 28.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He recently recorded 29 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists against the Dallas Mavericks, but Miami still suffered another defeat.

Antetokounmpo explained that he originally intended to reserve No. 34 for Milwaukee, where he spent much of his NBA career and won a championship.

However, he acknowledged that his decision might not be permanent.

“Hey, you never know. I’m a human. I might change my mind. Maybe next year I’ll put 34.”

While Miami remains winless, several other teams have made strong starts to the season.

The Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets have each opened with four consecutive victories.

Memphis has received major contributions from Ty Jerome, who is averaging 29.8 points and 6.3 assists, including a 45-point performance in the season opener.

Rookie Cam Boozer is contributing 15.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game despite shooting 29.5% from the field.

Oklahoma City has also remained undefeated despite dealing with several injuries.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is averaging 27.3 points, while Ajay Mitchell recently scored 30 in a 125-114 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

The Thunder secured that win without Jalen Williams, Cason Wallace and Chet Holmgren.

Meanwhile, Houston has been led by Alperen Sengun, who is averaging 24.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game.

Sengun recorded 29 points, nine rebounds and nine assists against the Atlanta Hawks, while Kevin Durant added 22 points and nine rebounds.
