Lonnie Walker IV is determined to secure a guaranteed contract with the Boston Celtics. The guard, who signed an Exhibit 10 deal this offseason, knows the challenge ahead.
“I’m still on an E10,” Walker said during the Celtics’ media day, as reported by Bobby Manning. He emphasized that his current priority is proving his worth to the defending NBA champions.
Walker remains focused on impressing the Celtics’ coaching staff and front office with his play. “Right now, I’m really just trying to earn that guaranteed contract,” Walker added.
“Honestly, just controlling the controllables. Leave it all up to God to say the least. With God on your side, how can you lose?” he said.
The 25-year-old guard is no stranger to competing for a roster spot. In the 2023-24 season with the Brooklyn Nets, he averaged 9.8 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.
Now, he aims to carve out a role in Boston’s backcourt rotation.
His performance with the Celtics will be key to securing a more permanent deal.
An Exhibit 10 contract allows Walker to compete for a spot on the Celtics’ regular-season roster. It also offers financial incentives if he ends up playing for the team’s G League affiliate.
However, Walker has his sights set on a guaranteed contract in the NBA. His scoring ability and athleticism could make him a valuable asset for Boston.
Walker’s journey has been one of resilience and persistence. After spending four seasons with the San Antonio Spurs, he joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022.
