According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, it is highly probable that Deandre Ayton will be traded by the Suns in the upcoming offseason. MacMahon made the comment during an episode of The Hoop Collective podcast, stating that even with head coach Monty Williams’ departure, Ayton’s departure from Phoenix is still very likely.

“By no stretch do I believe that Monty Williams departure makes it much more likely for Deandre Ayton to still be in Phoenix next season. I still am pretty sure Deandre Ayton will be traded this summer,” he said.

Last summer the Suns were unable to reach a contract extension agreement with Ayton, making him a restricted free agent. In July 2022, he signed a lucrative four-year, $133 million offer sheet with the Indiana Pacers, but the Suns swiftly matched the offer, ensuring his return to Phoenix.

During the past season, the 24-year-old center showcased his skills, averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds in 30.4 minutes per game. In the playoffs, he maintained solid numbers of 13.4 points and 9.7 rebounds in 31.9 minutes per game.

Reports have emerged previously suggesting that the Mavericks have shown interest in acquiring Ayton, adding fuel to the speculation surrounding his future. The Suns’ decision to part ways with Monty Williams and bring in Frank Vogel, a 2020 NBA champion, as the new head coach, further indicates a potential shake-up in the team’s roster.
