Thunder decline Nikola Topic’s 2027-28 rookie option

The Oklahoma City Thunder declined to exercise Nikola Topic’s 2027-28 rookie-scale team option, Keith Smith reported Sunday, November 1. The decision concerns the 21-year-old guard’s fourth and final season under his current rookie contract.

Topic is in the third year of a four-year, $23 million deal. Oklahoma City has chosen not to retain him under the contract for the 2027-28 season.

The Serbian point guard made his NBA debut last season, appearing in 10 regular-season games and averaging 5.2 points, 4.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 16.1 minutes. He shot 43.1% from the field and 40% from three-point range.

He also played nine postseason games for the Thunder, averaging 0.4 points and 0.3 assists in 2.6 minutes per appearance. His role was limited to brief appearances during Oklahoma City’s playoff run.
