J.R. Smith, the newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers, revealed that, like many players, he wanted to be like Michael Jordan early in his career on Inside The Green Room podcast hosted by his teammate Danny Green and Harrison Sanford.

Jordan won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls and is widely considered as the greatest basketball player of all time. Naturally, being like him is a tough task to say the least.

Even though he initially wanted to play for North Carolina in NCAA to follow Jordan’s path, Smith admitted he never liked college basketball and instead declared for draft.

For Smith, it didn’t take long to realize he will not be the next MJ. “My rookie year,” Smith said when asked when it happened. “First day at training camp Byron Scott ran us into the ground. I’m never gonna be like Mike.”
