NBA veteran Kristaps Porzingis is reportedly considering retirement, raising questions about his future in professional basketball.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Latvian center is seriously contemplating ending his playing career amid an ongoing situation that has drawn comparisons to Ben Simmons’ dispute with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021.
Fischer explained that the circumstances resemble the period when Philadelphia withheld Simmons’ salary after he failed to report to training camp ahead of the 2021-22 season.
However, he emphasized that Porzingis has not requested a trade, distinguishing his situation from Simmons’ departure from Philadelphia.
“It’s a situation similar, I’m told, to when Philadelphia withheld Ben Simmons’ salary while the Sixers’ then-point guard did not report to training camp at the start of the 2021-22 season.
“Yet a key difference is that Porziņģis, unlike Simmons, has not demanded to be traded. It’s also believed that Porziņģis is strongly contemplating retirement.”
