It was third time lucky for Fenerbahce as they claimed the EuroLeague title for the first time in their history in front of their home fans in Istanbul last night.
And head coach Zeljko Obradovic is already preparing his players and fans for a potentially special moment next year, IF Fenerbahce reach a fourth straight Final Four in Belgrade in 2018.
On the importance of the Final Four being held in Istanbul, he said to Eurohoops.net.
“You have the wish to win the title in any Final Four. And it’s special for Fenerbahce to win the title for the first time in history.
“Next year the Final Four will be in my country, Serbia and my city, Belgrade. I’ll try to prepare everyone to be in the Final Four in Belgrade.”
The celebrations in Istanbul were certainly wild, but Obradovic stayed grounded as Fenerbahce have unfinished business to take care of in the Turkish league.
Tonight we will be celebrating, I said to my players that they deserve this but we have Playoffs in the Turkish league and not so many time to recover,” Obradovic said.
“However we must recover because we are the defending champs.”
