DeMarcus Cousins proposes Rudy Gobert-Anthony Davis trade

DeMarcus Cousins believes the Minnesota Timberwolves should trade Rudy Gobert for Anthony Davis, arguing that the move would give the team another offensive option while Anthony Edwards recovers from a knee injury.

Speaking on Gil’s Arena, the former NBA All-Star suggested Minnesota should pursue Davis and send Gobert to Washington. Cousins also argued the deal could benefit both teams, particularly if the Wizards are unwilling to offer Davis a contract extension.

“Rudy looking crazy, he’s shooting like 23% at the rim or something like that,” Cousins said, criticizing Gobert’s early-season finishing. He added that Davis could give Minnesota another player capable of creating offense while Edwards is sidelined.

Davis is currently with the Washington Wizards, where he has averaged 21.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists in five games this season. The 33-year-old is shooting 44.1% from the field and 35.3% from three-point range.

Gobert, meanwhile, is averaging 6.6 points and 12.2 rebounds in five appearances for Minnesota, shooting 37% from the field. The four-time Defensive Player of the Year is also averaging 1.0 assist and 0.4 blocks in 30 minutes per game.

Cousins’ proposal comes after Minnesota learned that Edwards is expected to miss up to two months following an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee. Edwards is averaging 33.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists through four games, making his absence a significant challenge for the Timberwolves.

Minnesota also has LaMelo Ball, who is averaging 13.4 points and 6.6 assists in five games. Cousins believes adding Davis would give the team another offensive focal point during Edwards’ recovery.
