Antetokounmpo and Adebayo lead Heat past Hawks for first win

Giannis Antetokounmpo recorded 24 points and 18 rebounds in his first victory with the Miami Heat, who defeated the Atlanta Hawks 129-117 on Wednesday night to snap a four-game losing streak and earn their first win of the 2026-27 season.

Bam Adebayo also scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Miami, which acquired Antetokounmpo from Milwaukee during the offseason. Adebayo made eight of 16 shots and eight of nine free throws, finishing with a game-high plus-22 rating. He also passed Udonis Haslem to become the Heat’s all-time leader in rebounds.

Andrew Wiggins added 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while Pelle Larsson contributed 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds off the bench. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 14 points in a reserve role as Miami shot 53% from the field and dominated the paint, scoring 70 points inside.

The Heat established control early, making 15 of 23 shots in the first quarter to take a 34-25 lead. They extended the advantage to 69-56 by halftime and maintained their offensive production after the break.

Miami created its largest lead late in the third quarter, when Hardaway knocked down a three-pointer to make it 95-77. Atlanta outscored the Heat by one point in the fourth quarter, but could not close the gap.

Kingston Flemings and Nickeil Alexander-Walker led Atlanta with 23 points apiece. Flemings shot 9 of 12 from the field, including three three-pointers, while Alexander-Walker made five of nine attempts from beyond the arc. CJ McCollum added 13 points, and Jalen Johnson finished with 12 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a triple-double after shooting 4 of 12.

Atlanta fell to 2-3 after losing three consecutive games following a 2-0 start. The Hawks shot 48% overall and made 16 of 38 three-point attempts, but Miami’s efficiency inside and strong first half proved difficult to overcome.

Miami improved to 1-4 overall and 1-1 on the road. The Heat will host the Indiana Pacers on Friday, while Atlanta faces Cleveland at home on Thursday.
