The Miami Heat were reportedly ready to make a move for Giannis Antetokounmpo this offseason that would not involve Bam Adebayo, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. The plan would have allowed the Heat flexibility in crafting a trade package for the Bucks star.

Sources indicate it is unlikely Antetokounmpo would have seriously considered a move to Miami without Adebayo, with whom he shares an agent. Any potential offer excluding the Heat’s All-Star big man appears moot, as both sides value the connection between the two players.

Antetokounmpo explored options outside Milwaukee over the summer, questioning whether the Bucks could remain legitimate title contenders. His agent, Alex Saratsis, fielded interest from multiple teams, with the New York Knicks emerging as the only team he reportedly wanted to play for.

The Bucks and Knicks engaged in trade discussions in August, but no deal materialized. Milwaukee reportedly doubted New York’s offer strength, and the Knicks felt the Bucks were not fully committed to trading Antetokounmpo.

Antetokounmpo did not issue a formal trade request, though Milwaukee executives had feared one during Jon Horst’s trip to Greece in late July. This offseason marked the first serious consideration of options beyond Milwaukee for the two-time MVP.

Looking ahead, Antetokounmpo will become eligible for a four-year, $275 million contract extension on October 1, 2026. Whether he remains with the Bucks or moves elsewhere after a trade, the extension ensures long-term financial security.

For now, Antetokounmpo will monitor Milwaukee’s early-season performance, which includes the addition of Myles Turner and the waiver-and-stretch of Damian Lillard.
