Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun could miss several games after suffering a back injury, according to head coach Ime Udoka.
The Turkish international experienced discomfort during Houston’s recent game against the Atlanta Hawks but managed to remain on the court and help his team secure a victory.
Despite dealing with pain, Sengun delivered an impressive performance, finishing with 29 points, nine rebounds and nine assists against Atlanta.
However, his condition worsened following the game, prompting the Rockets to evaluate the injury and take precautions.
Houston subsequently announced that Sengun would miss Thursday’s matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks on October 29 because of back pain.
Speaking to SportsTalk 790, Udoka provided an update on the center’s condition, explaining that medical examinations revealed a minor back strain.
“He felt some pain at the beginning of the Atlanta game, but he continued playing thanks to the adrenaline. He started feeling more pain afterward. The examinations revealed a mild strain in his back, so we’ll be cautious. At most, he’ll miss a few games.”
The 24-year-old has been one of the Rockets’ leading contributors early in the season, averaging 24.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.8 steals through his first four appearances.
