The NBA playoff picture could shift Tuesday night as several teams enter the April 7 slate with postseason scenarios tied directly to the night’s results. With the regular season in its final week, outcomes across multiple games will influence both playoff berths and Play-In Tournament positioning.
The most immediate scenario involves the Minnesota Timberwolves, who enter the night at 46-32 and currently hold the sixth position in the Western Conference standings. Minnesota can clinch a playoff spot Tuesday with a win combined with a loss by the Phoenix Suns.
Minnesota faces the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in the early window of the schedule. The Timberwolves remain in position to avoid the Play-In Tournament but must secure wins while watching results elsewhere in the conference.
Phoenix plays later in the night against the Houston Rockets, creating a direct connection between the two Western Conference races. If the Suns lose and Minnesota wins, Phoenix would be locked into the Play-In Tournament.
The Suns currently sit seventh in the West at 43-35. That position places them inside the Play-In range but still within reach of the sixth seed depending on late-season results.
Houston enters that matchup playing strong basketball late in the season. The Rockets hold a 49-29 record and the fifth seed in the conference while riding a six-game winning streak.
In the Eastern Conference, the Miami Heat also enter Tuesday with postseason implications. Miami would be locked into the Play-In Tournament with a loss.
The Heat, currently 41-37 and sitting 10th in the East, travel to face the Toronto Raptors at Scotiabank Arena. The Raptors have already secured postseason positioning at 43-35 but remain involved in seeding movement within the top six.
Miami’s situation reflects the tight middle of the Eastern Conference standings. Teams from seventh through ninth — including the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, and Orlando Magic — all hold identical 43-36 records.
Tuesday’s schedule also features several other matchups with potential seeding impact. The Oklahoma City Thunder visit the Los Angeles Lakers, while the Sacramento Kings face the Golden State Warriors.
Across the league, the race for positioning continues with only a few games remaining on the schedule. The Play-In Tournament is set for April 14-17, while the NBA Playoffs begin April 18.
