Former NBA champion Tristan Thompson has shared his thoughts on cryptocurrency trading, warning that many people who make millions in the market fail to recognize the real value of their earnings.
Thompson believes the rapid rise of cryptocurrency has allowed some traders to become wealthy almost overnight, but their financial success does not always come with an understanding of how to manage that money.
“The reason why I’m still around, leverage trading and still onchain doing degen stuff is because I’ve come from a world where the value of dollar actually meant something.”
The former Cleveland Cavaliers center explained that he understands why people are attracted to cryptocurrency, particularly given the opportunities to generate substantial profits without following a traditional career path.
“And I think in crypto, a lot of people became overnight celebrities, and God bless them. The fact that you’re able to sit on a computer for eight hours a day and make millions of dollars, it’s amazing.”
However, Thompson emphasized that money earned through cryptocurrency should be treated with the same seriousness as income earned through conventional employment.
“But you have to value that no different than your parents making $150,000. The problem in crypto, a lot of these guys think it’s pretend fairy-tale money, but no, it’s actually real money.”
Thompson also pointed out that cryptocurrency profits can provide long-term financial security when handled responsibly, rather than being continuously exposed to risky trades.
“And they’ve played with it like it was fairy-tale money, not understanding that this can actually change your family, especially if you take some of it and put it to real-world assets.”
