Just over a week after adding him, Toronto has moved on from Mo Bamba, waiving the veteran center after a very brief stint with the team, according to Blake Murphy of Sportsnet.ca.
Bamba was signed to provide temporary frontcourt depth while Jakob Poeltl continues to work back from a back injury.
Although the former sixth overall pick had been productive in the G League with the Salt Lake City Stars, that success didn’t translate into meaningful minutes with the Raptors, as he appeared sparingly in two games.
Because Bamba’s contract was non-guaranteed, Toronto was able to waive him ahead of the league’s salary guarantee deadline, limiting the financial impact to a small cap charge for his time with the team.
With 10-day contracts now available, the Raptors could still consider bringing him back once he clears waivers.
At the same time, Poeltl appears to be making progress, and the Raptors have leaned on smaller lineups and bench contributions to stay competitive.
Even so, some around the league believe Bamba could return on a short-term deal if Toronto decides it needs extra insurance in the middle.
