Among the trade ideas floated for Atlanta, Bobby Marks has pointed to one scenario he considers the most appealing from the Hawks’ perspective.
That framework would involve Atlanta receiving CJ McCollum, Malaki Branham, AJ Johnson, and a 2026 first-round pick originally belonging to Oklahoma City, while sending Trae Young and a future second-round pick the other way.
Even so, Marks has expressed skepticism about whether Washington would actually agree to those terms, noting that the Wizards might push for additional draft assets to justify absorbing Young’s projected $49 million salary for next season.
Beyond that proposal, the list of potential suitors appears to be shrinking.
Despite past speculation linking Trae Young to Brooklyn and Houston, neither the Nets nor the Rockets are currently showing interest in making a move for him, according to reporting by Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.
Sam Amick of The Athletic echoed a similar sentiment regarding Sacramento, indicating earlier this week that the Kings are also not in the mix.
Minnesota is another team viewed as an unlikely destination. Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic has reported that the Timberwolves are not expected to pursue Young, largely because of the financial complications involved.
While Tim Connelly has a track record of exploring aggressive trades, Young’s $46 million cap hit this season and his $49 million option for next year would make it difficult for Minnesota to assemble a deal they’re comfortable with and still manage their salary structure in the years ahead.
