Rookie Will Richard spoke about his growing comfort with the Golden State Warriors following their 114-83 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday at Chase Center. Richard scored 15 points in 19 minutes, contributing to Golden State’s undefeated home record of 5-0 this season.
“I feel pretty comfortable,” Richard said. “I try to keep it simple, spacing the floor and knowing when to cut. Credit to my teammates—they’ve really helped make that transition a lot easier.” He highlighted how guidance from veteran players has aided his adjustment to the NBA.
Richard discussed the keys to effective cutting on offense, noting, “As soon as I see the defender’s head turn or the back of his numbers, that’s when I cut.” He credited his high school and college coaches, along with watching the Warriors growing up, for developing that instinct.
“Every time I check in, I try to make an impact offensively and defensively,” Richard said. “Growing up watching Steph and Dre, I feel like every time I’m on the court, I need to play as hard as I can.”
The rookie also reflected on his college experience, including a deep NCAA tournament run. “It definitely helped me. There’s a lot of pressure, one game at a time, and you learn not to get too high or too low,” Richard said. He emphasized staying focused and trusting the team through ups and downs.
Richard acknowledged the importance of maintaining momentum for the rest of the season. “Whatever role they need me in to help us win, I’m willing to do that,” he said. “I try to keep it simple and make an impact every time I step on the floor.”
Through 11 games across the start of the 2025–26 season, Richard has averaged roughly 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in about 16 minutes per game. He has shot 58% from the field and 41% from the free-throw line while showing consistent growth in understanding Golden State’s pace and spacing.
He has already shown his scoring potential with a 30-point performance against the Sacramento Kings in NBA Cup play, shooting 66.7% from the field and 62.5% from three in 35 minutes.
With Stephen Curry sidelined due to illness, Richard’s contributions, along with Jimmy Butler’s 21 points, helped Golden State secure a 13-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters. Quinten Post added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Al Horford chipped in 12 off the bench.
Indiana was hampered by injuries, sitting Pascal Siakam and missing Aaron Nesmith, while Andrew Nembhard led the Pacers with 14 points and nine assists.
Golden State now prepares for a six-game road swing, starting in Oklahoma City, while Indiana continues its road trip at Utah on Tuesday. Richard’s steady development and the team’s depth could prove pivotal as the Warriors navigate the early season.
