Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr praised his team’s depth and execution following Sunday’s 114-83 victory over the Indiana Pacers at Chase Center. The win improved the Warriors to 6-5 overall and 5-0 at home, while Indiana fell to 1-9.
Kerr highlighted the team’s third-quarter surge, which featured a 13-0 run spanning the third and fourth quarters. “We finally got some stops and good pace to the game,” he said. “Jimmy really took over at that point, but we had guys cutting, moving, and making plays. Will, Moses, Pat, and Al all contributed in that stretch.”
The coach also addressed Jonathan Kuminga’s struggles, noting that some nights are tough for any player. “Tonight wasn’t his night, but Tuesday could be,” Kerr said. He emphasized patience and continued development for younger players as the team navigates early-season challenges.
Kerr acknowledged the Warriors have yet to establish a clear identity despite the win. “We haven’t played very well overall, but I’m confident in this team,” he said, noting the upcoming six-game road trip with two back-to-backs. “If we stay healthy and win our share of games, it sets up the rest of the season well for us.”
The coach also praised Will Richard, who has impressed with his basketball IQ and adaptability. “He really knows how to play. He’s constantly making the right cut, the right pass, and his fundamentals are fantastic,” Kerr said. Richard contributed effectively in Sunday’s win, reflecting the team’s growing depth.
Kerr commented on Golden State’s ability to beat Indiana at home for the first time since 2019. “They’ve had our number the last few years, but it’s nice to finally beat them here,” he said, noting the Pacers’ talent and coaching.
Regarding lineup adjustments, Kerr expressed interest in maintaining Quinten Post with the first group, citing his defensive improvement and plus-minus impact. “He gives us a shooter feel and quick ball movement. I imagine I’m going to keep him out there in the lineup,” Kerr said.
With Stephen Curry expected to return Tuesday, Kerr anticipates that the Warriors’ rotations will stabilize. He emphasized that the early season is a period of growth and evaluation. “We’re finding out a lot about our team, incorporating Al Horford, and giving guys responsibility. Tonight wasn’t perfect, but it’s part of the process,” Kerr said.
