Russell Westbrook recorded his NBA-record 204th career triple-double as the Sacramento Kings defeated the Golden State Warriors 121-116 on Wednesday at Golden 1 Center. Westbrook finished with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists in his first triple-double with Sacramento.
Dennis Schroder played a crucial role in the fourth quarter, hitting three 3-pointers during an 11-0 run that broke a 104-all tie. Schroder ended the night with 18 points, while DeMar DeRozan led the Kings with 25.
The Warriors received strong performances from Will Richard and Moses Moody, who scored 30 and 28 points respectively. Jonathan Kuminga added 24 points but missed a key layup with 24 seconds remaining while Golden State trailed by three.
Several star players were absent, including Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, Draymond Green, Domantas Sabonis, and Zach LaVine, forcing both teams to rely on depth and adjust lineups. Despite the short-handed rosters, the game remained competitive throughout.
Golden State jumped out to a fast start, with Richard and Kuminga combining for 33 first-half points to give the Warriors a 13-point lead. Sacramento chipped away at the deficit, closing the half within five points and taking a seven-point edge into the fourth quarter, thanks in part to 10 points from DeRozan in the third.
Turnovers plagued the Warriors, who committed 19 miscues, including an 8-second backcourt violation on the first possession of the fourth quarter. Sacramento capitalized on the mistakes to secure the win.
The Kings improve to 3-5 on the season and will host the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday. Golden State falls to 5-4 and heads to Denver for Friday night’s matchup against the Nuggets.
