Will Richard highlighted mental focus and team support in Golden State’s 133-112 victory over Memphis. “My coach always tells me that’s a beautiful thing about the NBA. The games come so quick, so you got to have a quick memory. Teammates supporting me and just trying to keep the game simple, playing the right way, and taking the open looks,” he said after scoring 21 points.
Richard also discussed his playmaking in the game, contributing six assists. “Just trying to make the right play. I feel like Gee does a great job cutting. He’s always somewhere to be found. Just trying to play the right way and make plays for my teammates,” he explained.
On his defensive impact, Richard noted his discipline in taking chances. “On-ball I need to be a lot more solid, but off-ball that’s where I can take some of my chances and try to get in those passing lanes. Just trying to pick the right opportunities to make plays,” he said.
Reflecting on his rookie honesty during a coach’s challenge, he said, “I’m pretty honest, but they don’t really listen to me… so I’m glad they finally gave me one.”
Richard also embraced the shared Florida basketball connection with teammates Al Horford and Walter Clayton. “Love it, man. Gator in the league making an impact and putting on for the Gator logo. It’s special,” he said, noting the value of their shared experience.
He described his mindset after the All-Star break and staying consistent during the long season. “Leaning on my faith. God’s helped me through a lot of that. Just staying grounded, with support from my teammates and coaches,” Richard said.
The Warriors dominated early with a 29-8 second-quarter run to take a 74-53 halftime lead. Brandin Podziemski and Gary Payton II added 19 points each, Gui Santos scored 17, and Malevy Leons contributed nine, giving Golden State eight players in double figures.
Memphis was led by GG Jackson with 24 points and eight rebounds, while Ty Jerome added 22 points and five assists. The Grizzlies have now lost 12 of their last 15 games, tying for 12th place in the Western Conference with the Dallas Mavericks.
Golden State stays eighth in the West and will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday, while Memphis starts a three-game road trip in Dallas on Friday.
