Tyrese Maxey’s late 3-pointers lift 76ers past Pacers after comeback

Tyrese Maxey scored 27 points and hit two crucial three-pointers in the final 90 seconds as the Philadelphia 76ers rallied from a 13-point deficit to beat the Indiana Pacers 114-109 on Wednesday night. Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown each recorded a double-double as Philadelphia improved to 4-1 with its second consecutive road win.

Maxey’s late shooting helped the 76ers recover after a disastrous third quarter. Philadelphia led 62-52 at halftime after VJ Edgecombe’s halfcourt shot at the buzzer, but Indiana opened the second half with a 17-0 run to take a 69-62 advantage. The Pacers outscored the visitors 36-13 in the third quarter, entering the final period ahead 88-75.

Philadelphia responded in the fourth, tying the game at 94-94 on Maxey’s layup before taking the lead on his free throws with 5:15 remaining. The teams remained close down the stretch, but Maxey delivered from beyond the arc when it mattered most. His second three-pointer gave the 76ers a 112-106 lead with 46 seconds left, putting them in control.

Embiid finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Brown added 20 points and 10 boards. Anfernee Simons also scored 20 points off the bench, making six of his 10 three-point attempts. LeBron James contributed 13 points and 10 assists, and Edgecombe finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

Indiana was led by Pascal Siakam, who posted 26 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out with 12 seconds remaining. Andrew Nembhard returned from neck soreness to record 18 points and 14 assists, while Aaron Nesmith also scored 18.

The Pacers played without Tyrese Haliburton, who is dealing with a left hamstring strain. Coach Rick Carlisle said he expected Haliburton to miss at least two weeks. Center Ivica Zubac also missed his second consecutive game with a left ankle sprain.

Indiana shot 41% from the field and made just nine of 36 three-point attempts. Despite its dominant third quarter, the team was outscored 39-21 in the fourth as Philadelphia completed the comeback.

The 76ers host the New York Knicks on Friday, while Indiana visits the Miami Heat that night.
