For nearly four decades, Nikos Galis’ name has been synonymous with EuroBasket scoring dominance. The Greek legend’s numbers stood untouched, sitting on a pedestal reserved for the very best. Now, Luka Doncic has joined him in that rarefied air, delivering a campaign that will forever be remembered.

The Slovenian superstar closed his EuroBasket 2025 run in the Quarter-Finals but left with a mark that echoes through history: an average of 34.7 points per game. That feat makes him only the third player ever to average more than 30 points at a EuroBasket tournament.

The list of legends speaks for itself. Galis remains the gold standard, with his 37.0 points per game in 1987 still the all-time high, followed by 35.6 in 1989.

Doncic now sits third with his 2025 scoring tear, ahead of Galis’ 33.6 in 1983 and 32.6 in 1991. The only non-Greek name on this elite list is Doron Jamchy, who scored 31.9 points per game for Israel in 1987.

“They could be joined by Giannis Antetokounmpo by the end of this event,” the official FIBA report noted, pointing to the Greek Freak’s current 29.8 points per game. With two more matches to go, Antetokounmpo would need at least 95 points to surpass Doncic as the 2025 scoring leader.

Doncic’s numbers also tower over recent editions of the tournament. In comparison, Giannis led 2022 with 29.3 points per game, while Pau Gasol’s 25.6 in 2015 and Dirk Nowitzki’s 28.7 in 2001 stand as benchmarks from the previous generation.

Doncic has now ensured his name is etched alongside Galis in EuroBasket lore, the kind of company reserved only for icons.

His ability to dominate on the biggest international stage, game after game, speaks not only to his scoring brilliance but also to his growing legacy.
