When asked about the best player he has faced in one-on-one situations, the Los Angeles Lakers star guard Luka Doncic immediately pointed to former teammate Kyrie Irving.

“We play a lot of one-on-one in practice. One of the most incredible players to go against was Kyrie Irving because there are very few players in the world like him in one-on-one basketball.

“He was the most fun to play against. Of course, I was the one winning because I played with power.”

Doncic and Irving were teammates on the Mavericks from 2023 to 2025.

Together, they formed one of the NBA’s top backcourts and helped lead Dallas to the 2024 NBA Finals before Doncic was traded to the Lakers in 2025.
