The New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers are among the teams monitoring Malik Beasley’s free agency, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Beasley, 28, was recently informed he is no longer a target in a federal gambling investigation. The news removes a cloud that had stalled Detroit’s plans to extend the veteran guard on a three-year, $42 million deal earlier this summer.
Beasley played a full 82-game schedule for the Pistons in 2024–25, averaging 16.3 points while shooting 41.6 percent from three. He also contributed 14 points per game in Detroit’s six-game playoff series against New York.
The Pistons finished with a 44–38 record, their first winning season since 2016, and earned a postseason berth for the first time since 2019. Beasley’s perimeter shooting was a key factor in their turnaround.
Despite his impact, Detroit’s financial situation complicates a potential return. ESPN’s Bobby Marks explained that the Pistons hold only Beasley’s non-Bird rights, limiting their maximum offer to $7.2 million.
Detroit has already added Caris LeVert, Duncan Robinson, and Javonte Green in free agency, signaling that the front office may prioritize roster flexibility over a long-term deal for Beasley.
Meanwhile, the Knicks and Cavaliers are exploring minimum contract options. New York’s front office connection is notable, as executive Gersson Rosas originally signed Beasley to a four-year, $60 million deal in Minnesota.
The Knicks have maintained interest since facing Detroit in the playoffs, according to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line. Beasley’s floor spacing and veteran experience fit their need for perimeter depth.
Cleveland is also seeking additional shooting around Donovan Mitchell and Darius Garland, making Beasley a potential low-cost addition to strengthen the rotation.
Beasley has played nine NBA seasons with Denver, Minnesota, Utah, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, and Detroit. With his name cleared, his market value will depend on whether the Pistons attempt to keep him or if another franchise offers a more secure role.
