Defending champions Spain have officially locked in their 12-man squad for FIBA EuroBasket 2025, as head coach Sergio Scariolo looks to guide La Roja in their title defense.

The announcement came on the heels of a dramatic 106-105 overtime defeat to World Cup holders Germany, a game that underlined both Spain’s resilience and the challenges ahead.

The finalized roster features a mix of proven veterans and emerging talents: Santi Aldama, Darío Brizuela, Juancho Hernangómez, Willy Hernangómez, Sergio de Larrea, Xabi López-Arostegui, Joel Parra, Jaime Pradilla, Josep Puerto, Mario Saint-Supéry, Yankuba Sima, and Santi Yusta.

Spain’s preparation campaign has been far from ideal. In six warm-up contests, they managed only one win – a road victory over Czechia – finishing with a 1-5 record.

Despite the struggles, the squad remains anchored by key figures. Santi Aldama, who made his senior tournament debut at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, has quickly risen into a leadership role.

The Memphis Grizzlies forward also captured the TISSOT MVP award at the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in 2024, powering Spain to another Olympic berth.

Alongside him, Willy Hernangómez, the reigning FIBA EuroBasket MVP, returns to strengthen the frontline and bring invaluable experience.

Before tipping off their EuroBasket title defense, Spain will face one final test on August 23, once again against Germany, as Scariolo aims to fine-tune his squad’s chemistry and momentum.

At the tournament, Spain will compete in Group C, with games hosted in Limassol, Cyprus, where they will face a challenging slate of opponents: Greece, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, and the co-host nation Cyprus.

The reigning champions are set to open their campaign on August 28 at 14:00 CET, squaring off against Georgia in what promises to be a crucial first step in their quest to defend the crown.
