The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) elected Santi Aldama and Trey Murphy III as vice presidents on Friday, February 13, during its annual Winter Meeting. They replace Jaren Jackson Jr. and Donovan Mitchell, whose three-year terms have concluded.
As vice presidents, Aldama and Murphy will join the Executive Committee to guide strategic planning, business affairs, and initiatives affecting all NBA players. Fred VanVleet remains president, with Grant Williams as first vice president and Karl-Anthony Towns as secretary-treasurer. Other committee members include Jaylen Brown, Garrett Temple, and Gabe Vincent.
“I am excited to join the Executive Committee and get to work on the issues that impact NBA players daily,” said Aldama, a veteran forward for the Memphis Grizzlies. “My goal is to ensure every player feels supported and that we keep building on the strength and unity of this brotherhood.”
Aldama, selected in the first round of the 2021 Draft, has become a key contributor for Memphis and the Spanish National Team. He leads the annual “Campus Santi Aldama,” teaching basketball skills and teamwork to athletes aged 6-17 in his hometown of Gran Canaria.
Murphy, the 17th overall pick in the 2021 Draft, has developed into a dynamic starter for the New Orleans Pelicans. “Stepping into this role is a great opportunity to support the players and set up the next generation for success,” he said. Murphy also organizes community programs in Durham, North Carolina, including a Basketball Skills Development Clinic and a Back-to-School Community Bash.
The NBPA’s Executive Committee plays a central role in representing players’ interests in labor negotiations, benefits, and league policy.
