NBA legend Allen Iverson shared his perspective on the league’s growing player salaries, explaining that he welcomes the enormous contracts being awarded to today’s players, including those with limited roles.
Iverson said he believes every player should benefit from the NBA’s financial success, arguing that larger contracts also reflect the contributions made by previous generations who helped build the league.
Iverson: “I want the last man coming off the bench to make $100 million. Give them more money, man. Why not? All the money they make. That’s a compliment to the guys [who played] before.”
The former Philadelphia 76ers superstar suggested that retired players should view the league’s increasing salaries as a positive development rather than resent younger players for earning more money.
However, former NBA guard Lou Williams acknowledged that not every veteran shares Iverson’s perspective.
Williams admitted that seeing certain players receive lucrative contracts can be frustrating, particularly when those players are coming off the bench rather than occupying prominent roles on their teams.
Lou: “Some guys don’t take it like that, though… I’ll be honest, I kind of get it, because I just watched a player come off the bench get $22 million a year, and I’m like, ‘What the f*ck is that?’”
