After Slovenia, Spain, and several other national teams unveiled their squads, Czechia has now officially announced its 12-man roster for FIBA EuroBasket 2025.
The biggest headline, however, is the absence of star guard Tomas Satoransky, who will not be able to participate due to ongoing health struggles.
Satoransky himself explained his difficult decision in a heartfelt message shared on social media:
“Today I had to make a very difficult decision. Those who know me understand what it means for me to play for the national team, and how much I wanted to take part in my fifth European Championship wearing the national colors.”
The veteran playmaker, who has been the face of Czech basketball for years, admitted that his current condition would not allow him to compete at the required level:
“However, given my current health condition, I’m not able to help the guys the way I’d like to, and the way that’s expected of me. That’s why I have to withdraw from the roster. Simply put, my back has stopped me – just like this young guy in the photo.”
Despite his withdrawal, Satoransky made it clear that he is not closing the door on representing the national team again. Instead, he emphasized his desire to return for a proper farewell on the court:
“Before the summer, I wasn’t sure if this would be my last dance with the national team, but now I know for certain that I want to say goodbye on the court.”
The 33-year-old concluded his statement with words of encouragement for his teammates, who will compete in Group C in Riga:
“I believe we’ll all see each other on the floor soon, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed from afar for the guys in Riga, hoping they can add another valuable success for Czech basketball!”
Satoransky’s absence leaves Czechia without its most experienced leader, but his message underlined both his enduring commitment to the national team and his hopes to return stronger for a final chapter.
