New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns shared an unusual story from his honeymoon, revealing that he became involved in a high-priced auction for a rare Aaron Judge baseball card while his wife, Jordyn Woods, was snorkeling.
Towns recently attracted attention after being identified as the buyer of a rare one-of-one Judge collectible that reportedly cost nearly $1 million.
During a conversation with Sean, the NBA big man was asked about the purchase and the experience of participating in an auction involving such a significant amount of money.
Sean: “Recently you made headlines outing yourself as the person who spent nearly $1 million for a rare one-of-one…”
KAT: “Aaron Judge.”
Sean: “Aaron Judge baseball card.”
KAT: “Yeah, yeah, yeah.”
Sean then asked Towns to explain what makes a high-stakes sports memorabilia auction so compelling and why he was particularly interested in the Judge card.
Sean: “Can you pull back the curtain on what it’s like to be in a high-stakes card auction? Like, is that a nerve-wracking experience, and what was it about that card that made it a grail for you?”
Rather than immediately discussing the card’s value or rarity, Towns recalled the circumstances surrounding his participation in the auction.
According to Towns, he was on his honeymoon when the bidding took place. While Woods was enjoying time in the ocean, he was supposed to join her but instead remained focused on the auction through the Fanatics platform.
KAT: “Well, the problem was I remember I was on my honeymoon, and we were in the ocean and Jordyn was snorkeling. I was supposed to get in the water, and I was just on there bidding on Fanatics.”
Sean: “Locked in.”
Towns confirmed that he was fully occupied with the auction rather than participating in the planned water activities.
KAT: “I was on Fanatics Collect bidding.”
