Luka Doncic is scheduled to be in Los Angeles on August 3 for a Jordan Brand promotional event, just 24 hours after he becomes eligible to sign a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to RealGM.
The Lakers are expected to offer the 26-year-old a three-year, $165 million extension as soon as the window opens on August 2.
Doncic, who was acquired by the Lakers in February in a blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis to Dallas, has quickly become the cornerstone of the franchise’s future.
Despite minor offseason frustrations — most notably the departure of close friend Dorian Finney-Smith — team insiders say Doncic’s relationship with Lakers management remains strong.
ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported earlier this month that Los Angeles remains focused on finalizing the deal, even if it doesn’t happen immediately.
Doncic is committed to playing in EuroBasket 2025 through mid-September, which could delay the official signing until closer to the start of training camp.
Still, both Windhorst and Lakers beat writer Jovan Buha believe the structure of the deal is all but settled, and that the franchise is willing to give Doncic the time he needs.
Buha suggested a shorter deal is the most likely outcome, giving the Slovenian guard flexibility while keeping the Lakers competitive in the coming years.
Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists during the 2024–25 regular season and delivered multiple standout performances in the playoffs, even while managing a back injury.
His presence in Los Angeles for a brand event just one day after his extension eligibility begins will only intensify speculation that the deal is imminent.
