Indiana Pacers president Kevin Pritchard announced Monday that Tyrese Haliburton will miss the entire 2025-26 season as he recovers from a torn right Achilles tendon suffered during Game 7 of the NBA Finals.
Pritchard addressed the media, saying, “I have no doubt that he will be back better than ever. He will not play next year though. We would not jeopardize that now.”
The statement ends any speculation about a possible return late next season and underscores the franchise’s commitment to Haliburton’s long-term health.
The injury occurred on June 18 during the first quarter of the decisive Finals matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Indiana fell 103–91 after Haliburton was helped off the court and did not return.
The 25-year-old guard underwent successful surgery later that week and shared a positive message on social media, expressing his determination to come back stronger.
Haliburton was instrumental in leading the Pacers to their first NBA Finals appearance since 2000, averaging 17.3 points and 8.6 assists during the 2024-25 postseason. His clutch performances included multiple game-winning shots and a record-setting triple-double in the Eastern Conference Finals against the New York Knicks.
He wrapped up the regular season with averages of 18.6 points, 9.2 assists, and 1.4 steals over 73 games. For his efforts, Haliburton earned a spot on the All-NBA Third Team for a second consecutive year.
Despite his individual accolades, the grueling playoff run took a toll on his body. Haliburton initially strained his right calf during the Finals but chose to play through the discomfort before the Achilles injury ended his campaign.
His absence next season leaves a significant gap in Indiana’s backcourt. Bennedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard are expected to take on larger roles while the team explores additional options in free agency or the trade market.
Haliburton’s career averages stand at 17.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 3.7 rebounds over 333 games.
