Paolo Banchero and the Orlando Magic have come to terms on a substantial five-year contract extension worth $239 million, the maximum allowed under the current NBA rules.
This lucrative deal includes performance-based incentives that could boost his earnings to the Rose Rule maximum salary threshold -provided Banchero earns a spot on one of the league’s All-NBA teams.
Additionally, the contract grants Banchero a player option for the 2030–2031 season, a rare clause for rookie-scale max extensions.
The last time such an option was included in a similar deal was back in 2021, when Luka Doncic and Trae Young signed their respective rookie max extensions.
With this agreement, the Magic have now solidified their young core, having locked in Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Jalen Suggs on long-term deals that will keep them together for at least the next five years.
Banchero is coming off a standout season in which he posted impressive averages of 25.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game.
Despite a strong overall performance, his season was partially disrupted by injury – he missed 34 games during the first two months due to an oblique strain.
