For much of the offseason, there has been an expectation around the league that a trade involving Giannis Antetokounmpo would be completed before the June 23 NBA Draft.
However, recent indications suggest that timeline may no longer be realistic.
According to Chris Haynes, the Milwaukee Bucks are not treating draft night as a hard deadline despite previous comments from co-owner Jimmy Haslam suggesting the franchise wanted clarity on Antetokounmpo’s future by then.
“From what I’m hearing, this can drag on into free agency,” Haynes said on SiriusXM.
“This could drag on until July. The Bucks are not operating that that is the ‘deadline.'”
Haynes added that while he still expects Antetokounmpo to be traded this offseason, he is less confident that a deal will be completed before the draft.
“If that is to be the case, we’re back to square one as far as all the speculation goes,” Haynes said.
“I still do ultimately believe he will be moved this offseason, but I’m not certain as I was before that it will be done before the draft.”
