The Los Angeles Lakers have been rumored holding that keen interest in signing Christian Wood to bolster their frontcourt, but they are reportedly limited to what they can offer to the talented big man according to league insider Marc Stein.

“The Lakers have openly stated they want another big and Christian Wood is by far the most talented big man available. But the Lakers are obviously restricted in what they can offer”

The Lakers are truly facing restrictions of potentially tapping Wood this offseason. Upon allotting most of their cap space retaining Austin Reaves, D’Angelo Russell, Rui Hachimura and adding free-agent guard Gabe Vincent, they can only offer a much lower contract on the undrafted big.

Wood is certainly looking to get paid fresh from the expiration of his three-year, $41MM deal. After averaging 16.6 points and 7.3 boards in a lopsided campaign last season for the Dallas Mavericks, the big man appears also considering joining a team that will grant him a chance to further showcase himself — a situation that he won’t be able to enjoy in the Lakers given Anthony Davis’ presence.

For now, Wood remains the best free agent available in the market and is still being eyed by several teams given his offensive wits and gifts as a center.
