Ricky Rubio is on the verge of rejoining Barcelona, according to reports. The former NBA player has been in talks with Barcelona’s basketball section manager Juan Carlos Navarro about a potential return to Palau Blaugrana. Multiple sources have confirmed to Mundo Deportivo that there is a strong mutual understanding between both parties, and a deal is close to being agreed upon.
Rubio, who began his professional career with Joventut, previously played for Barcelona from 2009 to 2011, winning the EuroLeague title in 2010. He then made the leap to the NBA, spending the past 12 seasons with the Timberwolves, Jazz, Suns, and Cavaliers. Rubio has expressed his desire to eventually return to his hometown and play the final years of his career there.
While Rubio has denied any official agreement with Barcelona on social media, it is believed that a pre-agreement is in place, pending his physical condition. The 30-year-old guard has one more year remaining on his contract with the Cavaliers but intends to seek a consensual exit from the franchise after fulfilling his obligations.
