After the Celtics promoted Joe Mazzulla to a permanent head coach position it became clear that Ime Udoka will not return to Boston when his one-year suspension ends.

This was a signal for other NBA teams that the coach who led Boston to the Finals last season is available for hiring. He was reportedly a candidate to replace Nate McMillan in Atlanta, but the Hawks decided to sign Quin Snyder instead.

There is still interest in Udoka around the league who has proven that he can be a successful coach.

According to a Steve Bulpett of Heavy.com, three teams have called the Celtics to check on Udoka in order to be ready to make a move on him if they need a new head coach.
